Kelly Maynard

Jack and Kelly MaynardI am not an avid climber, nor am I in any kind of physically fit status to brag about. But I know my son, Jack, has some excruciating challenges ahead of him, and I am climbing Everest to End Duchenne because I hope to inspire him to fight through those challenges even when victory seems unlikely or impossible. He inspires me every day with his quick smile and belly laugh, despite his body weakening a little more each day.

I hope to bring much needed awareness to the fact that Duchenne takes every basic and fundamental childhood truth and makes it impossible for our sons — running when you get a new pair of shoes, playing sports in the backyard, climbing a tree. Eventually, it takes their life. A cure IS finally within our reach, and if I have to fly to other side of the world and climb the largest mountain to scream it from top, I will. Failure is NOT an option.
